Russia and Iran advocated for the extension of the ban on commercial fishing for sturgeon in the Caspian Sea.
According to the Agency, this was declared during a regular meeting of the Russian-Iranian Commission for fisheries, held in Astrakhan. Its main topic was the implementation of the agreement on the conservation and rational use of aquatic bioresources of the Caspian Sea, which was signed in September 2014 in Astrakhan by representatives of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.
It is noted that addressing this issue requires the participation of all littoral States. It is expected that the discussion in the five-party format will be held in early summer during the meeting of the Commission on aquatic bioresources of the Caspian Sea.
Previously, the Commission has extended the ban on sturgeon fishing to 2016.
